iPhone 4
It’s that time again!
There’s a new iPhone on the market and it’s changing the way we look at our mobile phones again. With so much power and potential in the palm of our hands these days it’s no wonder there is such a large fight for the number one spot in handheld devices. Apple has been in the smartphone business since 2007 and they are steadily growing in the market today with the new iPhone 4.
Despite several short-comings with the carrier (AT&T) and many complaints about the phones themselves I think it’s safe to say that iPhone will move to the top of the list this year, thanks to iPhone 4 and the all new operating system for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad – iOS 4. Although HTC and Motorolla are rolling out some incredible products that utilize the powerful Android system I think Apple’s faithful customers and previous iPhone users will be sticking with the phone that started it all. I myself will be upgrading to iPhone 4 as soon as possible!
Let’s review a few of the greatest features of iPhone 4 and Apple’s iOS 4 for the very few of you who don’t already know…
iPhone 4
For me, the most amazing new feature of iPhone 4 is the antenna – it’s the entire structure of the phone! It’s no secret that there are many dropped calls and service issues with previous generations of the iPhone and the new antenna on iPhone 4 should be a big improvement on this issue, well done!
Next, although plagued with issues already, is the camera system. With a 5MP camera and led flash on the back, iPhone 4 will be delivering stunning images from your smartphone. Although many people are upset that this is only 5MP as opposed to 8MP and 12MP from other phones, I say – IT’S A PHONE!! If you’re that concerned with professional quality photos then you shouldn’t be taking photos from your phone, you should buy a camera! the other big news about cameras is that iPhone 4 has a front-facing camera that you can use for video calls – the downfall here is that, as of right now, you need to be talking with someone else who has an iPhone 4 in order to use it. but it will soon be a great feature for everyone!
Last thing on iPhone 4 before we move on – the display & styling of the phone. The display is the highest resolution display of any smartphone on the market, it’s beautiful. With brilliant colors and smooth lines as far as the eye can see it’s no wonder that Apple has been talking about this display like it’s a new child! As for the overall styling of the phone, I’m very impressed. I wasn’t a big fan of the bubbly look of the older versions, the new iPhone 4 on the other hand has clean, straight lines, stainless steal, glass on the front and back, incredibly detailed craftsmanship… it’s perfect!
Moving on…
Apple iOS 4
Now, there are supposedly 100+ new features in Apple’s iOS 4 – unfortunately there are only 20 or so of them listed anywhere, so who knows?! If someone has a complete feature list for the new iOS 4 I would love to see it, because as far as I can tell with my iPhone 3G I’m only using maybe 5 – sad. Let me just tell you about the couple that I’m actually using.
First we have the new folders – to me and my iPhone 3G this is the best! I went from 9 pages of apps to 2! From organizing apps by pages and having to scroll past them to find different categories to having 1 page of folders that are easily identifiable – this is great! Folders = WIN!
Next, the new mail system. All of my new messages in 1 inbox – that’s absolutely wonderful for someone who has 5 email accounts linked to his phone. Now I can save up to 20 clicks every time I check my mail on the iPhone… Thank you!
Aside from the improved stability, which is great, I really haven’t noticed anything else. And since iPhone 3G doesn’t support the new wallpapers or multitasking (FAIL) and I have no idea what other features there are since these are apparently impossible to find anywhere… I guess that’s it for me!
Thanks for reading!
